Dr. Henry Cuellar, veteran Congressman for Laredo, addressed the detention of a black Catholic nun and two other religious workers in the Valley by solemnly pronouncing, “I don’t think that’s a work of God.” I agree with the Congressman’s take on the ICE agent’s horrendous mistreatment of thousands of private citizens since Trump and his stooge Stephen Miller took office.
Several citizens have been murdered in their vehicles for the crime of “not following orders.” These masked officers can fire their weapons into vehicles with impunity, knowing they would be protected by the likes of Kristi Noem, who solemnly branded the murdered victims “domestic terrorists.” FBI director Kash Patel claimed the officers enjoyed complete immunity for their crimes. Tom Homan, current head of ICE, looked into the camera and told Americans they had better obey orders or more blood will flow.
I’m delighted Henry will be checking with the local Diocese to ask for divine guidance on how to stop these masked agents from kidnapping religious workers in the future. Was it the “work of God” when he voted, along with all the Republicans recently to give ICE $10 billion to round up brown people who speak Spanish, have an accent, and look foreign? Was he doing the Lord’s work when he voted with Republican Congressmen over 50% of the time on any bill concerning immigration? Why is he always part of a handful of Democrats who vote against our interests?
I have spoken with State and Federal prosecutors who assure me there is no legal reason any state District Attorney cannot investigate, indict, go to trial, and find masked agents guilty of murder if the facts are provable. Our local DA found two U.S. Border Patrol Agents guilty of murder some years ago. The government never stepped in to defend their actions because they were federal agents. Both were convicted and are serving life sentences today. The difference? Trump and his corrupt DOJ were not in power then.
I cannot recall any public official referring to human beings as “low-hanging fruit” as attributed to Dr. Cuellar. In 1939, Blues singer Billie Holiday, sang the song “Strange Fruit,” a protest song about the lynching of blacks on trees in the Southern states. It was a powerful protest song that exposed the horrors of racism in America. Today’s “low-hanging fruit” is now flippantly used to describe innocent religious leaders attacked and arrested in broad daylight because of obvious racists in the White House and in ICE. The majority of Congressmen and Senators who were shocked when the draconian laws they voted for and funded forever comes and bites them where it hurts. Only when God’s representatives and Latino high school mariachi groups are rounded up, does an occasional Congressperson complain to ICE.
The chickens that we have fattened for the past ten years are finally coming home to roost.
