Every day Americans witness Donald Trump’s mental decline. Some state he is the most imbecilic person in the United States. Others disagree, saying those who elected him easily take first place. But blanket statements are unfair. Not ALL Republicans are prolific liars, abysmally ignorant of economics, greedy, insecure, immaturely egoistic, xenophobic, misogynist, or racist. The majority surely are decent folk who, misled by lies, media propaganda, the Internet, or conspiracy theories, have made mistakes. Now witnessing Trump’s sowing chaos by militarization of American cities and international invasion, Americans are waking up.
“An informed public lessens the chances of reelecting inept politicians.” ~ Jeff McNelly
Closer to home, Laredoans should prepare for the upcoming U.S. Congressional District 28 election clown show. One concern is the incumbent indicted for bribery from two foreign entities. If tried, his 54-page indictment threatened a very lengthy prison term. Graciously accepting Trump’s blanket erasure of the indictment, he is out of legal trouble with one blind stroke of the presidential pen. However, canceling a grand jury indictment and avoiding trial does not mean he did not conspire and accept Azerbaijani and Mexican handsel.
“Dime con quien te juntas.”
During his last presidential campaign Trump’s evil-clown persona emphasized, “I love the undereducated!” So right on cue, the county’s judge latched onto Trump’s judgment and announced candidacy with predictably abbreviated perception. This public servant, whose clouded mind publicly questioned the efficiency of facemasks during the COVID pandemic, saying, “Prove it to me!” All he had to do was Google “Red Cross,” “Influenza Pandemic,” or go to the public library! Deep ignorance of public health should dismay voters and disqualify candidacy to the United States Congress. Never belying his MAGA inclinations, he hosted Senator Ted Cruz’s local rally. The emcee was the former head of the U.S. Hispanic American Chamber of Commerce who had recently quit that post amid allegations of skimming organization money and being one step ahead of a sexual harassment accusation.
Incredibly, our tonsured judge shamelessly stated he “was honored” to have Donald Trump’s endorsement; the backing of a 34-count convicted felon and adjudicated rapist! He was also endorsed by Bible-thumping Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, an unabashed Christian nationalist. Johnson is good at vacillation, deflection, and avoiding answering critical questions concerning government and legislation.
Some Republican members of Congress witness Donald’s harmful, unlawful, and immoral acts. The dignified ones are waking up and growing a spine, alarmed by Trump’s deleterious mental slippage. Instead of displaying sane and dignified leadership, the would-be emperor demands blind loyalty and obedience a la Josef Stalin, Adolf Hitler, or Francisco Franco. Many of his his bratty ego issues, insane orders, and threats blatantly violate the U.S. Constitution. He unlawfully uses the military as a cudgel against American residents and estranges world nations with idiotic tariffs. Our now becomes the world’s laughingstock. Americans are perceived as burros who quietly acquiesce to the Fuhrers’ whims.
Citizens must speak up. Democracy is not like an appliance that can be repaired when it fails to help us; it is not a spectator sport. Freedom and liberties require open communication and participation of its citizens. It is imperative that we understand ourselves, know where we came from, where we are, and what we are – this would keep us from repeating mistakes of history.
Some governments, like Texas’ and Oklahoma’s, enact legislation that are insidious and dangerous methods of promoting ignorance. Ignorance blocks people from seeing the similarities between 2026 America and 1939 Germany. We must deal with our present American divisiveness like Germany deals with its NAZI past. Restriction of information promotes ignorance; illiteracy is key to control the masses, like banning books and curbing curricula does in American schools. Trump’s “undereducated” are easily controlled and manipulated by lies. We are ALL AMERICANS and deserve the rights and privileges bestowed by the Constitution.
“Truth is treason in an empire of lies.” ~ George Orwell
As for loud-mouthed people saying that Nicole Goode deserved to be killed, Lutheran Pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote before his execution by the Nazis, “Stupidity is a more dangerous enemy… than malice. Against stupidity we are defenseless. Neither protests nor the use of force accomplishes anything here; reason falls on deaf ears; facts… contradict(ing) one’s prejudgment simply need not be believed – when facts are irrefutable, they are just pushed aside as inconsequential, as incidental. …the stupid person, in contrast with the malicious one, is utterly self-satisfied and… becomes dangerous…”

This is the most brilliant expose of the current political and moral/spiritual condition. I hope more will read it.
I do not see recognition of the “click bait” prompting voters to vote “against” rather than pay attention to what they are voting for. It is this “against” that causes them to lose the power of their vote in any election. Do investigate what it is that you are actuallly voting for and therefore not presuming that you are voting for a democratic country rather than electing a facist one.
