Leticia Martinez Mendoza

Leticia Martinez Mendoza, Associate Judge for the Webb County Courts at Law, is in the run for Webb County Court at Law 1 Judge, a seat vacated by the retirement of Judge Hugo Martinez.

A successful attorney, Martinez was born and raised in Laredo, and attended local schools, graduating from Nixon High School. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Texas at Austin, as well as a Juris Doctor from the University of Texas School of Law.

She began her legal career as an associate attorney at Person, Whitworth, Borchers, Morales, and Whitworth in 1985. She has served as an Assistant Webb County Attorney, practiced law privately, and currently serves as an associate Judge for the Webb County Courts at Law.

In this position Martinez has implemented a procedure for weekly review of bonds for unindicted individuals, simplified the process for attorneys to be able to file motions for unindicted cases, started a special docket for juvenile respondents who have been arrested for vaping, and provided mediation services to those unable to afford mediation.

“I am committed to serving the people of Webb County. I will treat everyone with dignity and respect, upholding their rights regardless of background or circumstance,” she said, adding, “I believe in leading with integrity and compassion while upholding the law with impartiality.”

Martinez’s goals for Webb County Court at Law 1 include to:

  • Achieve Court of Excellence Status;
  • Collaborate with the Courts and County Departments to provide more efficient services;
  • Create a Specialty Court to address domestic violence and court monitoring of chronic offenders;
  • Help to reduce the rate of failures to appear for criminal court by providing a quick turnaround from date of arrest to initial court appearance (arraignment).

She is married to retired physician, Dr. Louis F. Mendoza Jr. They were blessed with three children.
