If you’re a fan of award-winning live theater, don’t miss the final stage performance of William Golding’s Lord of the Flies on Sun., Aug. 17, by students of the drama department of the Vidal M. Treviño School of Communications and Fine Arts.

Sunday’s matinee performance at the VMT auditorium (2102 Lyon) begins at 3 p.m.

Recently performed by the VMT troupe on the global stage of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Scotland, the students brought home – in recognition of their powerful performance – the Beast of the Fringe Award for the VMT theatre department.

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the world’s largest theatre festival, featured over 3,000 shows. VMT was one of 35 U.S. schools invited to perform.

VMT cast members are Alyssa Cabriales as Ralph, Max Torres as Piggy, Brandon Rojas as Jack, Allyson Téllez as Simon, Adan Villarreal as Sam, Josué Ramos as Eric, Isabella Gómez as Bill, Maya López as Maurice, Valentina Bernal as Henry, Oscar Jiménez as Roger, and Natalia Sierra as Perceval. They were accompanied by stage manager Melinda López and light/sound operator Christine Vasquez.

The award-winning production was directed by VMT instructors Marco Gonzalez and José Flores.

“We began fundraising last year just after being invited to this important event that I believe was a life-changing experience for our cast members. It was a beautiful way for them to experience the world opening up to them and for them to meet other students and other professionals, and especially to see other shows,” Gonzalez said, adding, “This was an inspired production of art, and we are excited to share it with VMT students, faculty, families of the cast, and the community.”

There is a suggested donation of $10 for the performance.
