The Laredo Theater Guild International (LTGI) has set auditions for a new take on Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility for Friday, August 1, from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, August 2, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Laredo College Shoebox Theater (T-30). Auditions are open to individuals age 14 and over.
This modern, fast paced adaptation by Kate Hamill focuses on the lives of the Dashwood sisters who after the death of their father leaves them to navigate loss, love, and society’s expectations. The play’s storyline, which explores what the heart follows when reputation is at stake, is revealed from a fresh female perspective with humor, heart, and bold theatricality.
Cassandra Canales is directing the play. Its producers are Linda L. Howland and Suzanne H. Alford. Show dates are September 25 through October 5.
Those who audition will read from sides provided. No memorization is required, nor are monologues. Familiarity with Austen’s story and characters will no doubt enhance auditioner’s performances.
