Accomplished audio engineer, music producer, and filmmaker Charlie Vela will conduct the Laredo Film Society’s Intro to Location Sound Workshop on Saturday, June 21. The workshop is from 1 to 4 p.m. at LFS HQ at 510 San Agustin Ave Suite B. The cost is $20.

This hands-on workshop with one of the region’s most experienced sound professionals offers the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of location sound recording, an overview of essential equipment, how to identify and solve common audio challenges, and setting up a basic interview.

Sound is one of the most powerful — and often overlooked —elements of filmmaking.

Vela’s clinic will provide a high-level overview of key audio concepts and techniques vital to the capture of professional-quality sound on set.

No prior sound experience is required to participate.

Vela, who is based in the Rio Grande Valley, has to his credit the acclaimed documentary As I Walk Through the Valley, which premiered at SXSW, and Going Varsity in Mariachi, an official selection at Sundance. His deep roots in South Texas culture Vela bring a unique and experienced perspective to location sound recording.
