The Saturday March 29 19th Annual March of Justice by the Cesar Chavez Memorial Alliance of South Texas will begin with a ceremonial community march to be followed by a presentation and recognition ceremony.
According to Alliance Board President Manuel Bocanegra, “The “Cesar Chavez Memorial Alliance of South Texas aims to uphold the legacy of Cesar Chavez by promoting education., artistic expression, and civic engagement in the community. Cesar Chavez was a leader and role model for working people in the United States striving to better the lives of their families and communities through peaceful process under the civil rights movement. The march serves as a reminder of Chavez’s credo that ‘once social change begins, it cannot be reversed.’”
The Alliance annually honors outstanding members of the community whose life achievements illustrate the “Si Se Puede” (“It can be Done”) motto of the farmworker movement in the United States. The 2025 honorees are Mario Mireles, Principal of Martin High School; Dr. Miguel Castillo, Chief Migration Education Advocate; and Roberto Milera, Constable Deputy Pct. 2 K-9 Officer.
