ESD’s Dec. 7 Household Hazardous Waste Collection offers safe disposal of potential pollutants

The City of Laredo Environmental Services Department (ESD) will host its annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection (HHWC) Event on Sat., Dec. 7 at the El Metro Park & Ride (1800 E. Hillside Road). The event begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m.

The free citywide collection – which provides Laredoans with a hassle-free opportunity to dispose of hazardous materials safely and responsibly – offers a convenient drive-through system by which Environmental Services staff unloads items directly from vehicles.

Materials from businesses or construction projects are not accepted, but the ESD encourages Laredoans to bring any unwanted household hazardous materials for safe disposal.

Acceptable items include cleaning products paints, stains, and solvents; pool chemicals; pesticides, herbicides, and insecticides; fluorescent light bulbs; electronics; and batteries.

Unacceptable items are tires; large appliances; furniture; medical waste; ammunition and explosives; commercial and radioactive waste

The HHWC event helps reduce environmental hazards and protects the community and natural resources by ensuring that hazardous materials are disposed of safely.
