Japanese-Texans who work in woodcuts, silkscreen prints, and mixed media, Charles and John Hancock are considered masters of low-tech printmaking and other mixed media printing, often incorporating unordinary surfaces such as mattress covers and bedsheets and found and recycled items into their work.
The brothers work collaboratively, with one sometimes adding to or finishing the work of the other.
In a 2020 podcast interview on helloprintfriend.com, John Hancock, referred to as “the grand-daddy of twenty-first century printmaking,” said, “Printmaking is our pencil” and “Blasphemy is our lifestyle.”
