The Laredo College Student Art Exhibit, which opens Friday, Sept. 6. at the Martha Fenstermaker Memorial Visual Arts Gallery on the historic Ft. McIntosh Campus, features the art of the College’s top tier of visual arts students.

Both two-dimensional and three-dimensional conceptual works will be featured, showcasing a variety of materials such as oil paintings, graphite drawings, sculptures, and ceramics. The exhibit includes various themes and concepts, ranging from personal and light-hearted to humorous and edgy. The exhibit’s pieces were selected by faculty and represent the best assignments from the Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 semesters.

Aside from the aesthetics of the 55 pieces displayed in the gallery, the work also informs the viewer of the LC art curricula, including classes in Beginning Drawing, 2D Design, 3D Design, Beginning and Advanced Painting, and Ceramics.

LC Art Professor Mary Provence invites the community to enjoy the work of these young local artists.

“Come support our students,” she said. “This is their moment to shine and feel proud of being selected in front of their friends and family members. Exciting things are always happening in the art department. We are in the midst of collaborations with the computer-aided drafting program as well as engineering. If you’re interested in taking an art course, you’ll have the opportunity to visit with the artists and ask them about their concepts and the courses they enjoyed or recommend,” she continued.
