It is with grieving hearts that the family of Lucila Adriana Casso Jennings announce her peaceful passing into eternal life on August 14, 2024 – a date coinciding with the birthday of her beloved mother – as her devoted husband, Rob Roy Jennings III and family members lovingly stood by her bedside.
Lucila was the daughter of the prominent Nuevo Laredo businessman and international sportsman, the late Oscar L. Casso, and the late Hortensia Farias Casso, a descendant of the founding families of Laredo.
They were parents of a boisterous family of seven daughters and one son. The Casso home was a happy gathering place for many friends of all the siblings, and where everybody who went loved to eat the exquisite empanadas, flour tortillas, and other treats that were the specialty of a beloved additional family member, cook and caregiver, the late Filomena (Filo) Guerra.
Lucila loved music, and her many attributes included a lovely singing voice, playing the piano and guitar, and entertaining the family with her gift of mime, always with a joyous and happy spirit.
She was a popular and fun-loving member of the “Club Petite” of Nuevo Laredo during her teenage years. She attended Ursuline Academy (now St. Augustine School) from first grade until graduating with the Class of 1964.
She was presented by the Society of Martha Washington, representing Mexico, and also was crowned Queen of the May Festival at Ursuline Academy her senior year. Lucila continued her education at Incarnate Word College in San Antonio and after graduating from IWC initiated her teaching career at Lamar Middle School.
Lucila suspended her teaching career when she met the love of her life, Rob Roy Jennings III. They were married in December of 1971 and Lucila loved being a devoted wife and mother, to her “Sweetie” Rob and their three children.
As the children grew, she returned to her teaching profession from 1986 to 1997. She was an English teacher at United High school and later served as head of the English department at United South High School.
Lucila was an active member of the Society of Martha Washington and served on its Board of Directors. Her devotion to her husband and children was paramount to her. She never wavered from her dedication to supporting her husband Rob in his ranching and business endeavors, always by his side for their 50-plus years of marriage.
Lucila greatly loved and was loved by her children and grandchildren: Lucila Cristine (Christy) Jennings; Rob Roy IV and Laui (nee Laura Mendez) and children, Rob Roy V and Garrett Colton Jennings; Oscar Thomas Clarence (O. T..) and Cindy (nee Cynthia Garza) and children, Ira Desmond and Kathlene Adele Jennings.
Lucila was the sixth of the eight Casso children – the late Hortensia Irma Casso. Couttolenc (+ Francisco Javier) of Mexico City; the late Mapy Casso Uranga (+ Hector Ignacio) of Queretaro, Mexico; Laura Cordelia Casso Flores (Ricardo Marcelo); Gloria Diana Casso Benavides; Graciela Maria Casso Pinilla (Martin Alberto) of Miami Fl.; only brother, Oscar Luis Casso Farias of Nuevo Laredo; and the late Elsa Margarita Casso Garza (Juan).
She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who loved her dearly and whose lives she touched in many special ways.
It was a very special grace that shortly before the Lord took her from this earth, Lucila was able to pray the Holy Rosary, as her daughter-in-law Cindy Jennings gathered as many family members who could unite with them in praying the Rosary at the same time from their homes.
There will be a private family service at a later date. Instead of flowers, the family will simply appreciate your kind thoughts and prayers. Those who wish to make a donation to the charity of their choice in her memory are encouraged to do so. If you wish to mail a card of condolence, you may do so care of Mr. and Mrs. O.T. Jennings at 3419 Ivory Creek, San Antonio, Texas 78258, or care of Mr. and Mrs. Rob Roy Jennings IV, at 2410 Williams Court, Laredo, Texas 78045.
Our Lord called Lucila home, she’ll always be missed, a wonderful happy neighbor that I will always remember fondly.
Diana Najera.
Vaya con Dios Amiga.
