The work of Laredo and Nuevo Laredo visual artists who have participated in the IX Binational Plastic Art Exhibition is currently on display in Nuevo Laredo at the Reyes Meza Museum on Blvd. Luis Ronaldo Colosio Km 2.5, through August 30.

Texas A & M International University will host the exhibit at the Zaffirrini Student Success Center from September 10 through September 20.

The goal of the dual city exhibits has been, according to its organizers, to “promote cultural identity on the United States-Mexico border” and to publicize the “artistic production of the border.”

The exhibition is sponsored by the Consulado General de México in Laredo, Instituto Cultural Mexicano de Laredo, Gobierno de Nuevo Laredo, Museo Reyes Meza, and Texas A&M International University.

Within the theme of “Bridges and Border Crossings,” artists selected from the subjects of commerce, economy, culture, unity, people, history, architecture, landscape, heritage, and evolution.

Contest organizers will appoint a jury of three members, who will select 12 works to be included in an upcoming calendar, as well as the three winning works in the exhibit. The selection criteria include technical skill, composition, aesthetic elements (color, line, perspective, and texture), originality, and interpretation of the exhibit’s theme.

The names of the 12 participants chosen for the calendar and the three exhibit winners will be announced on September 20 at 10:00 a.m. on the Facebook page of the Mexican Cultural Institute of Laredo.
