Eight South Texas artists will showcase their work Friday, May 31, at the Laredo College Martha Fenstermaker Memorial Visual Arts Gallery in an exhibit titled Unusually Familiar.
Participating artists from Laredo include Monse Guajardo, photography; Tres Tekuanis, video; Victoria Ramos, photography; Antonio Moreno, painting; Eduardo Rosas, ceramics; and Vermin the Villain of San Antonio, painting and installation; Karla Cruz of Santa Rosa, drawing and printmaking; and Ruben Lozano of Edinburg, painting.
“The photographs, videos, paintings, ceramics, drawings, printmaking, and installations of Unusually Familiar reveal the essence of certain junctures between people,” said Maritza Bautista, who curated the exhibit. Bautista is the Executive Director of Daphne Art Foundation.
The exhibit is free and open to the public. The opening reception begins at 5 p.m., and an artist panel discussion follows at 5:30 p.m. Visitors will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the artists and the visual concepts they used.
Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. The exhibit will be available at the gallery through July 26.
