The Laredo Little Theatre announces its return to the stage with Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka JR. as the 2024 Children’s Summer Musical Production.
The production is directed by Lisa G. King, with Dr. Joe Crabtree as Musical Director. Actors, singers, dancers, and crew members aged up to 18 are invited to join the LLT in bringing this timeless tale to life.
Auditions will take place on Saturday, May 4, for one day only at the LLT at 4802 Thomas Avenue, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Prospective candidates are requested to prepare at least 16 bars of any song and be ready to showcase basic dance skills as directed by the panel.
This adaptation of Roald Dahl’s fantastical tale features songs from the 1971 film that were revamped for the recent prequel movie of 2023. Willy Wonka JR. is a ‘scrumdidilyumptious’ musical that promises to delight theater-goers of all ages.
Willy Wonka JR. follows enigmatic candy maker Willy Wonka as he stages a contest by hiding golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Whoever finds these tickets wins a tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy.
Four of the five winning children are insufferable brats, but the fifth is a likeable young lad named Charlie Bucket, who takes the tour in the company of his equally amiable grandfather. The children must learn to follow Mr. Wonka’s rules in the factory — or suffer the consequences.
The show is set to run from July 18 to July 21, and July 25 to July 28. Tickets will be available at $15 per person. For more information, visit www.laredolittletheatre.org.
