Laredo is one of the five stops for a convoy of electric vehicles traveling through South Texas from April 22 through 24.
The convoy, which is sponsored by the Texas Electric Transportation Resources Alliance (TxETRA) and the Texas Electric School Bus Project (TESBP), aims to inform South Texas leaders and stakeholders about electric transportation resources and to encourage applications for available grants and incentives. TxDOT will provide an update on the Texas EV Plan.
The Laredo stop is on Tuesday, April 23. Other stops include Corpus Christi, Brownsville, Kerrville, and San Antonio.
Local legislators, elected officials, utility companies, school district administrators, and community leaders are invited to explore the abundant funding available to enhance their communities and advance an electric transportation future in Texas.
“Bringing the EV roadshow to these cities follows two successful EV road trips in West and East Texas and is a pivotal move for our electric transportation future,” said Buzz Smith of the Texas Electric Transportation Resource Alliance (TxETRA). “We’re showcasing a diverse array of electric vehicles, including an electric school bus, and providing a comprehensive guide for electrifying Texas. Our goal is to invigorate local economies, collaborate with community stakeholders, and amplify the benefits of electric transportation, sparking progress in South Texas communities,” he said.
“The yellow school bus symbolizes the American dream, a symbol of opportunity and hope. We have a unique opportunity to use this vibrant symbol to drive progress and bring opportunity to communities across Texas as we strive to electrify our school bus fleets,” said Jessica Keithan, Co-Founder and Director of the Texas Electric School Bus Project. “Electric school buses are better for our children and communities and more cost-effective to operate and maintain. They represent energy independence and resilience. Texas, a leader in the energy industry and innovation, is poised to be at the forefront of electrification. Let’s show states like California and New York how it’s done!” she added.
Vehicles on exhibit include two Tesla Model Ys, a Kia EV-9, and an electric school bus from Blue Bird.
