Cards in the Air, a solo exhibition featuring sculpture and works on paper by Pittsburgh-based artist Leah Patgorski opens to the public with a reception on Friday, April 5, at Casa Daphne, located at 1420 Washington St.

Taking its name from the poker phrase when the dealing begins, Cards in the Air is an exhibition that references fate, life’s new beginnings, and points encountered along the way. Her sculpture and works on paper are about play, questioning random arrays, and mysticism or divination.

The artist was born in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Architecture at the University of Virginia, followed by a Master of Fine Arts at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her studio practice includes sculptures and painting-like objects, constructed of paper and textiles.

She has been commissioned to create numerous large-scale pieces. Her individual work has been exhibited nationally and internationally with venues that include Union Hall in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Proyecto ‘ace in Buenos Aires, Argentina; Westmoreland Museum of American Art in Greensburg, Pennsylvania; Strohl Arts Center in Chautauqua, New York; SWDZ in Vienna, Austria; and ADDS DONNA in Chicago, Illinois.

Patgorski was part of the collective Other Border Wall Project with Tereneh Idia and Jenn Myers from 2017-2022.

Synthia provides the evening’s DJ Set.
