Council member Vanessa Perez was accorded a Visionary Leadership Award from the FM 1472 Mobility Coalition for contributions and tireless efforts to an improved trade corridor in District VII. She was recognized for her innovative policies, collaborative efforts, and strategic contributions that led to improved mobility on the Mines Rd.

Coalition founders praised Perez for the innovative idea of rerouting trucks crossing World Trade Bridge to I69 from FM 1472. According to the coalition, this single policy shift has significantly reduced congestion, fostering improved trade and movement.  Mario Palos Garza of Palos Garza Logistics, remarked, “Thanks to her dedication, collaboration and hard work, Vanessa Perez helped bring solutions to improve logistics in Laredo.”

Kurt Kraus of Pinnacle Investments thanked Perez “for your diligence and strong leadership. Traffic flow on Mines Road has improved measurably. Please keep going the extra mile for District 7”

In addition to mobility improvements, Perez was recognized for her efforts to bridge the $88 million dollar funding gap for the future Hachar Reuthinger Road (SH 84). During her time as Mayor Pro-Tempore in 2023, Perez advocated for funding assistance so this crucial infrastructure project would remain on schedule.  Her advocacy resulted in an agreement with TxDot and the Laredo and Webb County Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), on which she serves, to fully fund this roadway as planned.

“Her help brokering that agreement was an example of the outstanding leadership she brings to Laredo and exemplifies her unwavering commitment to the betterment of Port Laredo, Mines Rd, and District 7,” stated Robert Morris, president of LLUSCBA.

The coalition highlighted Perez’s “common-sense approach” to city growth issues and her ability to bring practical solutions to everyday challenges. Perez responded, “It has been an honor working to improve the port for all to benefit, especially for the people who live and work out here.  Public safety and an improved quality of life for the people of Laredo are what drives everything I do.”

The FM1472 Mobility Coalition was formed by industry leaders including IBC, Palos Garza, Patmo Concrete LLC, Laredo Motor Carriers Association, Laredo Licensed US Custom Brokers Association, Pinnacle Development, and Asociación de Agentes Aduanales de Nuevo Laredo.
