Once again the election season is upon us. All of a sudden, people that never acknowledged your existence are suddenly smiling at you, patting you on the back, and begging for money. They can never explain what they will do for you if they win their exalted position. All would-be politicians and incumbents swear your life will be so much better if they can get into their private club. Last Sunday’s LMT carried an election guide to help Webb County voters decide who is the better candidate.
Four Republicans who are wishing to replace Congressman Cuellar for the District 28 seat in Washington. All four men are highly educated and seem sincere. The first candidate is a proud Aggie and Naval School grad. His hyperbole about border security is awe-inspiring. He fails to tell us which nation’s borders he helped secure. Israel? Germany? He laments that the US border has been kicked wide open. Does he imply that thousands of US Border Patrol agents and thousands of Texas Guardsmen and Abbott’s razor wires are ineffective? Apparently touting his knowledge of world history, he solemnly informs us that he knows of nations “demolitioned” by mass migration bombs. He failed to mention even one example.
He is aghast at the naked moral corruption of our so-called leaders. The prime example would be the multi- indicted, tennis-selling psychopath who wants to get back in power. He fails to define what is “weaponized mass illegal entry.” That should spread fear and hatred among the Republican masses, don’t you think? The next candidate has a Master’s in Political Science and History. His college was not mentioned. He wants to designate drug trafficking networks as terrorist organizations. If he is successful, can the US bomb houses anywhere in Mexico to destroy cartel operations anytime? Will we need permission from the Mexican Government before attacking? If Mexico retaliates, can they attack US targets at will? Will he name the Proud Boys and Klansmen as domestic terrorists and kill their leaders without due process?
He claims the US does not have a border. The last time I checked, the US- Mexican Border has existed for hundreds of years. The last time our border was officially declared was after the US invaded Mexico and stole half of its country, ending with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. He wants our nation’s laws to be enforced regardless of anyone’s status. I am positive he means he wants 45 to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law without obstruction. Another candidate is a History Major and a staunch NRA Life member. He opposes gun registration. He wants the local voting public to know that he supports the indicted fraudster and sexual abuser/defamer’s policies. Three times he tells us he supports all 45’s policies. Those must include flagrant tax fraud, stealing and secreting classified documents at home, and collaborating with Russian, North Korean, and Saudi dictators. He is staunchly pro-life but is against vaccine mandates. If I don’t get vaccinated and get infected, then I infect you and you die, it wasn’t my fault. It was God’s will. He is “pro-life” and wants thousands of more semi-automatic weapons on the streets and elsewhere.
The last candidate states that President Biden should enforce our immigration laws. When a bipartisan bill was proposed to give immigration authorities more funds to help secure the border, the Republicans shot it down because they feared that it might help re-elect President Biden. The only “radicals” with extreme agendas are Republican Senators and Congressmen who only want to hold onto power and not lift a finger to help the common man. Written between the lines of these candidates’ resumes is that all of them are still Trump supporters and cannot wait to vote this self- proclaimed dictator back into office.
