The Laredo Theater Guild International, which has over its 15 years graced the local stage by orchestrating talent of all ages into memorable, well-executed theater productions, is seeking donations to replace its entire wireless microphone system – a valuable component in the Guild’s mission to continue to provide top quality productions.
The undertaking bears a cost of $100,000. Donations can be mailed to P. O. Box 451337, Laredo, Texas 78045 or by scanning the QR code included with this story.
Education is a vital component of the Guild’s work, and among the members of the LTGI audience have been students in the organization’s “Class on Stage,” which is focused on enriching students with a better understanding of literary masterpieces told on the stage. More than 2,700 students attended the production of Frankenstein, the 18th century classic by British author Mary Shelley.
The LTGI’s educational mission goes as well to what is learned by those who have a part in the detailed undertaking of a production.
“LTGI is volunteer-driven. What may seem a seamless effort on opening night is actually the sum total of hours of planning, financing, auditions, rehearsals, costuming, set production, and audio, musical, and lighting expertise,” said board member Karen Mejia.
A production of the dark comedy Hand to God by Robert Askins opens January 18 at the Laredo College Shoebox Theater. Set in Cypress, Texas, Hand to God is considered an exploration of the fragility of faith, morality, and the ties that bind us.
According to Mejia, the Guild’s upcoming summer production of Matilda the Musical, which is based on the book by Roald Dahl, will bring to the stage “a truly magical theatrical experience for the entire family.”
Mejia noted the partner institutions that have supported LTGI – Laredo College, Texas A&M International University, the Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Foundation, the D. D. Hachar Charitable Trust, and IBC Bank.
