An August 2 ribbon cutting hosted by the City of Laredo and the Webb County – City of Laredo Regional Mobility Authority (WC-CL RMA) marked the opening of the Springfield Ave. Extension Phase 3.
On September 2021, The Laredo City Council approved an ordinance in September of 2021 to execute an agreement between the City and WC-CL RMA for the development of the extension. Construction for the project began in November 2021.
Azar Services LLC constructed the five-lane extension that runs from Shiloh Dr. to a dead-end near Divine Mercy Park. The roadway follows the Viva Laredo Comprehensive Plan. It consists of 3,175 linear feet of 9” concrete pavement, storm drainage structures, water distribution systems, traffic signals, pavement markings, a 12-foot path for pedestrians and cyclists on both sides of the road, and landscaping.
“Today was an exciting day for Laredo. With the efforts of so many entities working together, we were finally able to bring the Springfield Extension Phase 3 to reality for the residents of Laredo. This phase connects Shiloh Dr. to San Isidro Parkway, which will allow significant alleviation to McPherson Rd., especially at the intersection of McPherson and Shiloh. Next up is likely to be Phase 2, connecting International to Shiloh and then Phase 4 which will connect San Isidro Parkway to Loop 20. When all is said and done, Springfield will be the longest North-South artery in the entire city,” said District 6 Council Member Dr. Tyler King. “Our commitment to mobility, connectivity, and health, should also be noted, with 12-foot sidewalks that allow ample space for pedestrians and cyclists alike,” he added.
