The Laredo Center for the Arts announces upcoming book signing and reception with artist, Ethel Shipton on Friday, April 14, 2023, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 500 San Agustin Avenue. The book is titled, Ethel Shipton: Outer Boundaries and it is a compilation of works and essays created as a collaboration between the Laredo Center for the Arts and Ruiz-Healy Art with Ethel Shipton, Norma Elia Cantú, Ph.D., Armando X. Lopez, Hills Snyder, Jenny Browne, and Jorge García as contributors.
Shipton writes, “Los Dos Laredos is a space from my past. It conjures the border towns of my youth, Laredo and Nuevo Laredo. This place, now so changed, lives on in my memories and in the stories my family chooses to tell. It is a magical place, and a large one with a combined population of 775,481, together the two towns spread over 786.26 square miles. There, people moved freely back and forth across a river, between two cities, between two countries, and between two languages.”
The evening will include readings by Dr. Norma Cantú, a native Laredoan and accomplished author, as well as a poem recited by Armando X. López.
“We hosted Ethel Shipton’s art exhibit “Los Dos Laredos y Mas” in April of 2022, and it proved to be among our most popular exhibits. One year later we will be hosting her return to the Laredo Center for the Arts to celebrate yet another great collaboration between Ruiz-Healy Arts and the Laredo Center for the Arts,” said Melissa Amici, Chair of the Art Acquisition Project and LCA board member.
LCA cordially invites the community to the April 14 Book Signing and Reception at which copies of the book will be available for purchase. The book is also available for purchase at the Laredo Center for the Arts, Ruiz-Healy Art website, Joe Brand. and the San Antonio Museum of Arts gift shop.
