Cesar Chavez Memorial Alliance of South Texas hosts 17th Annual March for Justice on April 1st

According to Board President Manuel Bocanegra, the Cesar Chavez Memorial Alliance of South Texas aims to uphold the legacy of Cesar Chavez by promoting education, artistic expression, and civic engagement in the community. “Cesar Chavez was a leader and role model for working people in the United States striving to better the lives of their families and communities through peaceful process under the civil rights movement,” he said, adding, “Our fundraising activities seek public support to benefit

low-income students access to postsecondary education and training.”

Every year the Alliance honors outstanding members of the community whose life achievements illustrate the “Si Se Puede” (“It can be Done”) motto of the farmworker movement in the United States. The 2023 honorees are neurologist Dr. Juan Felipe Santos, former Webb County Judge Danny Valdez, and Brown Beret member David Gomez. Master of Ceremonies will be attorney Carlos E. Flores. José Gamez, American Legion Post 59 Commander, will be the main speaker. Grand Marshall will be Arturo Santos.

Assembly for the March for Justice will begin assembly at 8:30 a.m. in Bruni Plaza at the intersection of San Bernardo Avenue and Washington St. The march will proceed south on San Bernardo Avenue to Zaragoza Street, turning right to reach San Agustin Plaza.
