In celebration of its love for local history, the Webb County Heritage Foundation will host a Valentines’ Membership Cocktail Party on Thursday, February 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Villa Antigua® Border Heritage Museum, 810 Zaragoza St. The event is free and open to the public and all are invited to renew or initiate memberships at this time. There are numerous levels of membership participation available from “Student” to “1755 Club,” reflecting various degrees of benefits available. Membership forms will be available that evening.

The gathering will also serve as the organization’s Annual Meeting with a special report on the Foundation’s activities presented at 6:30 p.m.

The Webb County Heritage Foundation is a non-profit historic preservation organization dedicated to the goals of historic architectural preservation, heritage education, and heritage tourism in Webb County and the surrounding border region.

The WCHF conducts tours of historic downtown Laredo, archives historic documents, maps, and photographs, records oral histories, presents exhibitions, and operates the Villa Antigua® Border Heritage Museum and the Republic of the Río Grande® Museum. The Heritage Foundation hosts the annual Founders’ Day Celebration in May and also names an honorary President of the Republic of the Río Grande as a tribute to outstanding commitment to historic preservation by an individual in this community.

Some of the Foundation’s most notable achievements have been the creation of a Laredo History curriculum taught in local schools; the historic rehabilitation of the former Gonzalez-Montemayor home in downtown Laredo into the Villa Antigua® Border Heritage Museum; the ongoing digitization of the Foundation’s historic collection of documents, photos, and maps for online access; and the most recent installation of an exciting, new permanent exhibit on the history of the Republic of the Rio Grande at the Republic at the Republic of the Rio Grande® Museum. This new exhibit also offers its own online curriculum.

As every year, the Foundation repeats its pledge to continue providing access to unique events that celebrate heritage, changing museum exhibits, special projects, historical collections, preservation workshops, tours, and advocacy in the name of historic preservation.

Join the celebration and become a part of living history!
