Laredo College graduate Ramiro Rubio, now a University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee graduate student returns to Laredo for a free classical guitar recital on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Ft. McIntosh Campus Shoebox Theater (T-30).
Rubio began learning guitar at Laredo College under the tutelage of Dr. Cain Budds and later under Dr. Matthew Bishop. He graduated with an Associate Degree in Performing Arts and then transferred to the University of Texas-Brownsville (UT-B). He will earn a master’s degree from the UW-Milwaukee (UW-M) in December and plans to pursue a doctoral degree in music.
He has performed with the UT-B One O’Clock Guitar Ensemble in prestigious events and venues that include the Schönbrunn Palace and the “Amerikahaus” U.S. Embassy in Vienna, Austria. He has also performed nationally and had a special performance alongside the Grammy award-winning artists of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet.
Rubio and the One O’ Clock Guitar Ensemble were selected to perform in the premiere of Dr. Joe Williams’ recordings of an old Alfred Hitchcock movie entitled “The Lodger.”
Most recently, Rubio performed at the Camino Artes Guitar Workshop in Carreon, Spain in 2019 and 2022. He has performed in many masterclasses with artists such as David Russel, Jason Vieaux, Rovshan Mamedkuliev, Anton Baranov, Stanley Yates, Rene Izquierdo, and Dr. Isaac Bustos.
Rubio’s Laredo College performance is free and open to the public.
