The Webb County Heritage Foundation presents Mario Moreno “Cantinflas” in his 1957 film, El Bolero de Raquel on Friday, September 23 at 8 p.m. on the patio of the Border Heritage Museum, 810 Zaragoza St. Admission is free and open to the public. Seating will be available.

“Join us for an evening of hilarity by Mexico’s iconic actor and comedian, Cantinflas,” said WCHF director Margarita Araiza.

The movie’s plot revolves around an affable shoe shiner who inadvertently becomes the guardian of a young boy. The child accompanies Cantinflas as he tries to find jobs in various venues including a zoo and the high diving cliffs of La Quebrada in Acapulco. In one knee-slapping instance at a nightclub, Cantinflas hilariously confuses the name of a sultry dance based on Ravel’s Bolero with the Spanish term for shoe shiner as he accidentally joins the performance.

The movie complements the Webb County Heritage Foundation’s exhibit of Cantinflas international film posters on display at the Border Heritage Museum. Due to popular response, the exhibit has been extended on view at the museum.

Border Heritage Museum hours are Tuesdays to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $3. Admission on Tuesdays is free.
