Rick Laurel announces candidacy for City Council District 6

Licensed U.S. Customs Broker Rick Laurel has officially announced his run for Laredo City Council District 6.

Laurel brings over twenty years of business experience to the table. If elected, he will be the first City Council member to represent the transportation and international trade industry.

He is an alum of United High School and a graduate of the University of Texas- El Paso where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.

“I love Laredo, and I am proud to be raising my family here,” said Laurel. “I promise to take action for our families and our future,” he added..

He said his goals as the representative for District 6 are to improve quality of life through business expansion, diversity, and more amenities for families; improve the safety and security of neighborhoods; improve water issues by working alongside management and Council members to ensure clean and potable drinking water; to work with other Council members to enhance the overall progress of the City as a whole to make Laredo a competition City so that it can compete with other similar cities.

He added that he wanted to improve and develop new infrastructure that meets citizen and business needs and improves and alleviates traffic mobility in key intersections along McPherson Road.

“I want to work to establish programs and initiatives for Laredo’s families and youth to garner their vested interest in the progress of the community; and to increase recreational opportunities for families within the district,” he said, adding, “As your elected official, I promise to represent you and all of District 6 with integrity, honesty, and respect. We deserve quality leadership and a brighter future for everyone in Laredo. I am committed to making our city the ideal place to live and raise a family. I am not interested in old school politics, so I will always listen and work with Laredo’s families in mind because everything I do will be for our families and our future.”

Laurel and his wife Elsa are the parents of two daughters and two sons.
