The stage of the TAMIU Fine and Performing Arts Center comes to life tonight with the Laredo Theater Guild International’s (LTGI) production of Into the Woods, the Stephen Sondheim/James Lapine Tony Award®-winning play.
In addition to the opening night performance, LTGI has scheduled five 7:30 p.m. performances on July 23, 27, 28, 29, and 30 and two Sunday matinees on July 24 and 31 at 3 p.m.
José Flores is the director of the play, and Ryan Duncan-Ayala its producer. Jessica Verastigui is the stage manager.
Into the Woods, which draws from the story lines of a handful of Grimm Brothers fairy tales, showcases actors from the deep well of local theater and musical talent. Among its characters are Little Red Riding Hood (Kaitlyn Mata); Jack and the Bean Stalk (Alejandro López); Rapunzel (Isabella López); and Cinderella (Allie Howland.)
General admission tickets are $25. Tickets for seniors and students are $20 with ID. They are also available online at laredotheaterguild.org
Into the Woods is a musical intertwining the plots of several Brothers Grimm fairy tales, exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. The main characters are taken from “Little Red Riding Hood,” “Jack and the Beanstalk,” “Rapunzel,” “Cinderella,” as well as several others.
