Laredo College welcomes Dr. Minita Ramirez as its eighth president

Friday, July 1, marks the first official day on the job for Dr. Minita Ramírez as Laredo College’s eighth president and the College’s first female president. Her extensive background in education encompasses a range of experience in local school districts, educational publishing, and more than two decades in higher education. She has held various administrative and faculty positions at Texas A&M International University, most recently as the Vice President for Student Success.

Additionally, Dr. Ramírez has a strong track record of student-driven programs and initiatives. Her commitment in education continues to be recruitment, retention, and the graduation of underserved students in communities along the border.

“We are eager to have Dr. Ramírez officially assume her position as the new Laredo College president,” said LC Board President Lupita Zepeda. “She is a consummate professional and an exemplary leader who has dedicated her life’s work to improving and expanding opportunities for students across South Texas and Northern Mexico. Her vision is fully aligned with our core institutional mission, values, and goals, which are unequivocally student-centered.”

Dr. Ramírez is committed to facilitating the seamless student transition from high school to college. She also supports access to college by encouraging student enrollment and on-campus engagement so that all students can successfully participate in learning that enhances their lives, the lives of their families and their communities.

The newly-minted college president holds an Associate of Arts in General Studies from Laredo College, a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from TAMIU, a Master of Science in School Administration from Texas A&M-Kingsville, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Higher Educational Leadership from Capella University. She earned the Graduate Fellowship with the University of Michigan’s National Center for Institutional Diversity and graduated from the Governor’s Executive Development Program at the University of Texas at Austin LBJ School of Public Affairs.

The students of Laredo College enroll not only to pursue their educational aspirations but also to learn how to forge a pathway of their own through meaningful work and valuable skills in high-demand fields and careers. As the pioneering institution of higher education in Laredo, Laredo College is privileged to welcome a new leader who will continue to uplift and embolden the community through academic and workforce programs that drive the regional economy forward.
