Carl M. Barto, president of the board of Bethany House, announced in a recent letter to supporters of the shelter and kitchen that the non-profit will host “Havana Nights,” a March 25, 2022 fundraising gala at the Laredo Country Club.
Referencing the shelter’s last pre-pandemic gala in November 2019 as a “wonderful party,” he urged prospective Havana Nights attendees to “figure out what you are going to wear, invest in some dance lessons, bring your checkbook and credit cards, and plan to have a fun time in a worthy cause.”
His letter also provided an update for how Bethany House fared under the weight of Covid-19. He called the community’s response with private donations to feed the hungry and shelter the homeless “wonderful and in some cases, astonishing.”
He said that the generous donations of local donors continue to be the main source of support for the homeless in Laredo. He also noted that the dining room is again open for sit down meals and that volunteers who wish to help with time and labor are welcome.
Barto urged supporters to continue donating, particularly since the last year saw an uptick in the number of entire families desperately seeking help with food, shelter, and supportive services.
