Laredo, Texas – The Laredo Public Library’s One City One Book reading program presents author Dr. Barbara Hong for a reading and book signing on Saturday, October 23 at 10:30 a.m. at the Joe A. Guerra Laredo Public Library (1120 E. Calton Rd.)
One City One Book connects readers citywide by offering free access to writers like Hong and her well-reviewed book, Failing Up: A Professor’s Odyssey of Flunking, Determination, and Hope.
The Laredo Public Libraries and Texas A&M International University have partnered to bring this program to the Laredo community for over ten years.
Readers will have the opportunity to meet Dr. Hong during the event that is free and open to the public. She will begin speaking at 10:30 a.m. after a 9:30 meet and greet.
Print copies of Failing Up: A Professor’s Odyssey of Flunking, Determination, and Hope will be available for check out at no cost through the Laredo Public Library System. Additionally, copies are available for purchase at Amazon.com.

About Dr. Barbara Hong
Barbara Hong received her doctorate from Columbia University in Special Education in addition to three master’s degrees in Instructional Practices, Policy & Leadership, and as a Learning Specialist from the same institution. She was also a three-time recipient of the prestigious Senior Fulbright Scholar award.
Hong has been a professor for more than sixteen years at the time of this publication and has taught in New York, Texas, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Hawaii.
She was appointed by the U.S. State Department, Bureau of International and Information Programs, as a Speaker Specialist and Expert on Disability as a consultant with governmental agencies around the globe.
Hong’s research examines the cognitive science of teaching and learning, particularly for students with disabilities, and the development of self-determination through the ethics of caring. Thus far, Hong’s research has been cited in the Handbook of Adult Learning, Wiley Library of Higher Education, Vanderbilt University’s Peabody Recommended Readings, British Library, and the Hong Kong Institute of Education Library.
