The City of Laredo does not agree with the decision made on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, by 49th District Court Judge José López to reinstate former city employee Tony H. Moreno to his position at the Utilities Department.

Despite the court’s ruling, the City of Laredo respectfully disagrees with the judge’s interpretation of the case and has filed an interlocutory appeal with the Fourth Court of Appeals, calling to question whether a municipality is entitled to stay all proceedings at district or whether the 49th District Court had jurisdiction in the matter.

According to interim City Attorney Sophie Garcia, the 49th District Court’s decision to reinstate Mr. Moreno does not negate the actions that put the community’s health in jeopardy. Until the issue of jurisdiction is resolved, the City of Laredo has no plans to reinstate Moreno.
