The Webb County Heritage Foundation (WCHF) invites the public to celebrate Mexican independence with a colorful experience of regional heritage on Thursday, September 16, at the Villa Antigua® Border Heritage Museum, 810 Zaragoza St.
Admission is free.
A special video entitled “History & Folklore” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. outdoors, in the patio of the museum. Seating will be available. The video showcases the Gabriela Mendoza-Garcia Ballet Folklórico performing the regional dances of Mexico. It was filmed at some of Laredo’s most iconic landmarks.
“This video is a beautiful blend of our two missions,” said Margarita Araiza, WCHF Executive Director. Each dance segment contains an explanation of the background of the dances and is accompanied by a brief narrative recounting the stories of each historic site.
“It is an entertaining and colorful way to learn about our heritage,” she said.
The Foundation will host a “Mex Fest” reception in the Philip V Room of La Posada Hotel t hat same evening, featuring a delicious assortment of Mexican tacos, botanas, and assorted snacks, with a cash bar.
Admission to the reception is $40 with tickets available at the WCHF office at 500 Flores Ave. or at www.webbheritage.org. The reception will take place from 6 to 11 p.m.
An exhibit of regional Mexican dance costumes and indigenous clothing from the private collection of Gabriela Mendoza-Garcia will be on display at the Border Heritage Museum until September 18.
The public is requested to wear facemasks for all events.
