This letter to LareDOS is re-printed verbatim.

Politics, whether we like it or not, affects every area of our lives. The stakes for families and ministry are remarkably high. We the People in Laredo are deeply religious and have strong moral and family values, which translates to Biblical Values.

Proverbs 29 When the godly are in authority, the people rejoice. But when the wicked are in power, they groan.

I will start by telling readers something personal of my life. I grew up as a Democrat but hardly voted, as a Catholic but hardly went to church. I grew up in the barrio thinking that the Democrats were for the poor and the Republicans were for the rich. Call it complete ignorance or whatever you want to call it, the plain truth, I ignorantly believed it.

Then came the day when I repented of my sins, gave my life to God, and accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior. For 20 years I went preaching and singing as an Evangelist. One day, in 1995, I started church services at my Laredo Home and pastored a handful of people. 26 years later, hence, Jordan River Church, now located at 2301 Sanders Ave. Laredo, Texas.

In 2016, I voted for Hilary Clinton, honestly, I still did not really care for politics. I had been very negligent my entire eligible voting life, I cared less who people voted for. Sometimes I would forget to vote, or I would just vote for someone only because the candidate was Hispanic. When that was not the case, I would “eeny, meeny, miny, moe” it. Though I did get involved in the local elections during my last few years as Laredo Firefighter Association as First Vice President, but after I retired in December 2011, I just dedicated myself 100% to pastor the church.

I woke up in November of 2018, by the fact that a certain group wanted to invade our city to impose their immoral lifestyle to Laredoans. I was so busy with my church and mining my own business (so I thought), that I had neglected my civic responsibilities. How do we expect someone in position of authority to vote in favor of Faith, Family, and Freedom when there are no Biblical values in their lives? For example, if we stand and face someone and ask them to point to their right, you will quickly realize their right is completely the opposite of your right. We cannot vote for a person just because we think they will do the right thing, because their right might not be the right thing for you and me. We the people must start standing for what is righteous according to God’s Word when they are in position of authority. If we are to love our neighbors, then we should also expect that those we elect will do the same. We should be concerned with the standard to which we should hold those who we elect to govern us. It is difficult as a Christian citizen to love your neighbor without first understanding how fundamentally different their world might be than ours. When we cast a vote, we are transferring our power to make decisions to someone else to rule in our place. If we are to take our divine charge of Love seriously, we must also take seriously our civic responsibilities.

What must I do? When we see injustice, we must identify it. When we are aware of suffering, we must address it. We must seek solutions, even if our best solution is to live our faith as citizens and make it our civic responsibility to pass this information on to our people as well.

Laredo now has an RNC Hispanic Community Center. We the people are tired of losing our freedoms and will be silent no more, hence the Hispanic Community Center. This Center is to inform our people, the true value of our constitutional rights. We share that we need to place people in position of authority with Biblical values. Faith, Family, and Freedom in America is severely under attack. They are not a guaranteed item while people without Biblical values are in position of authority. It does not matter if you live in the North, South, East, or West of Laredo. It does not matter if you are of low, middle, or upper income. What matters is that we place people with strong Biblical values in position of authority.

How could I blindly followed and ignorantly voted for people that would go against all I believed in and values Laredoans mostly embrace. All these years I voted for people that stood in favor of death (abortion) and not Life, special groups and not all lives matter, alternative families and not for traditional families nourishing; same sex marriage and not marriage between a man and a woman, shutting down churches and taking away their non-profit status and not Freedom to Worship as churches are essential; voting without rules and not for voter integrity; disarming the American people and not the right to bear arms, favoring shutting down American businesses determined non-essential and not protection of the American dream, and so on. Electing candidates who are committed to defending religious freedoms has paid off here in Texas where the Heartbeat Act, now law, is saving between 130-150 baby lives a day in our State. The Freedom to Worship Act, now law, has assured churches are essential amid a pandemic. Find out on your own what this Hispanic Community Center is about and what it truly represents. Decide for yourself where and who you want to stand with.

Let us unite and stand firm in the gap of our broken walls, stepping forward and passing these values on to your children and grandchildren, FAITH, FAMILY, and FREEDOM VALUES!

My challenge to Laredoans is to Keep God in the USA; to Keep One Nation Under God; to Keep in God We Trust; to Keep God in Texas; to Keep God in Laredo.

Pastor Jorge Tovar

  1. There are are quite a few people out there for whom the abortion issue, the right to life issue, is the most important political issue. I respect that. But I would ask those who fight for the rights of the unborn, to fight just as hard, or harder even, for the rights of those already born.
Sadly, the Republican Party supports the right to be born, but not the right to live and prosper, not the right to eat, or have healthcare.
So before you support the cynical politicians who conveniently urge you to support their “right to be born” crusade, find out how they intend to support those already born.
