Musings on the local Republican effort to recruit more Latinos into their exclusive party

I am uncertain if their welcoming sign will read Hispanic Community Center or Hispanic Engagement Office. Sounds very inviting, but their location is questionable. Few homes in North Laredo sell for less than $150,000.00 so most visitors are probably voters of the red persuasion.

Why not a Raza recruitment office in South Laredo? Conspicuously absent from the article is the mention of their twice impeached and soundly defeated hero, the former occupant of the White House, who 53% of Republicans believe is still president; 66% of these patriots still believe the election was stolen. 147 Republican Congressmen voted to overturn a legal election even after Trump ordered his crazed supporters to storm the Capitol on January 6th.  Eight Republican Senators, including Ted Cruz and 15 Texas Congressmen actually voted to overturn a democratic election.

The article mentions the word “values” at least five times so I guess values are very important to them. If family values are truly important to Mr. De La Garza, can he explain why he supported a thrice married philanderer who is credibly accused by over 20 women of sexual improprieties?

Why do the majority of evangelicals still fervently worship him? Are only wealthy families in Laredo worthy of help?

Mr. Hicks says his party supports the right to life. Why is Governor Abbott, a former Mr. South Texas in Laredo, forbidding mask mandates in Texas public schools and threatening to punish any school board who defies him? Does he not care about the safety and life of our school children?

Ms. Whitten touts her party as promoting life, hope, and liberty. Does that extend to minority Texans and LGBTQ Americans? De La Garza mentions taxes, which conservatives detest. He ignores the 2017 Republican Tax Cuts and Job Act that is projected to cost the U.S. Government $1.9 trillion in tax revenue solely to benefit the wealthiest 1% of the country over the next 10 years. That astronomical figure could have funded the Affordable Child Care Act, raised teacher salaries by $10,000.00 each, funded much needed climate science and invested in free community colleges nationwide. Your hero touted Law and Order when BLM protestors were demanding an end to indiscriminate police killings of unarmed black civilians but was directly responsible for the insurrection at the Capital by domestic terrorists whom he called “patriots” and told them he loved them.

The most corrupt President and Republican Congress in American history thought only of enriching themselves when ramming bills through and nominating three incompetent and wholly unqualified Supreme Court Justices whose sole reason for being nominated was to overturn Roe v. Wade that has existed since 1972.

On his last day in office, he pardoned 144 of his closest cronies and campaign workers including Bannon, Flynn, Manafort, Stone, and Kushner’s dad among others. He also pardoned four Blackwater contractors who murdered 14 Iraqi civilians in cold blood. As an afterthought, he pardoned two Border Patrol Agents duly convicted of murdering a Mexican national.

Mr. Gonzalez, since your goal is educating Laredoans about the Republican Party, tell them that in Austin, Republicans are forcing the most Draconian voter suppression bill in the country.  They want to make it extremely difficult for all minorities to cast a vote even though they have controlled elections in Texas for over 30 years. After their hero lost the White House, they decided there must have been some shenanigans in the elections even though they conveniently were re-elected. They were following the Big Lie promoted by your delusional narcissist, who still cannot believe he lost fair and square.

They want Laredoans to embrace conservative values? Conservatism stands for 1) limited government (unless you are in charge), 2) the rule of law (unless you are a patriotic domestic terrorist), 3) fiscal responsibility (unless you force through a $2 trillion-dollar tax break for wealthy donors) 4, human dignity (unless you are a woman or are brown, black, or gay). I can’t wait to sign up to be a Hispanic patriotic conservative in Laredo!
