Farmers Market shoppers and vendors enjoyed a beautiful half-day under the cover of the old oaks of Jarvis Plaza on July 17.
Shoppers reported great variety and prices on produce and local honey; hand-crafted soaps and skin care products; micro greens; just-popped popcorn; and plants at the well-organized event hosted monthly by Laredo Main Street.
The last three markets have provided a blessed outdoor opportunity of conviviality for friends who haven’t seen each other over the last year. The Market represents the energy and innovation of vendors who turned their ideas into viable products, and it reflects the longstanding effort of an organization that supports local talent and small business entrepreneurship.
We have participated in the Farmers Market since its inception as homegrown producers of organically cultivated herbs, succulents, and tropicals. Yesterday’s best sellers were chile pequin, Corona de Cristo, ready-for-spaghetti Sweet Basil, Yerba Buena, papaya, hanging baskets, dish gardens, Madagascar Palms, cacti, and some of the strange and incredible varieties we cultivate of Euphorbia, Sansevieria, and rosary vine.
Thanks for finding us and supporting us.
If you need something before the next market, please check out our online catalog at fit2plant.com at which you can order, pay, and arrange curbside pick-up by appointment. The site includes a virtual tour of our quiet, low-impact greenhouse that respects the tranquility of the St. Peter’s Historic District.
The City of Laredo should be commended (and further encouraged) for its support of the Farmers Market, one of the most wholesome outdoor family venues in the downtown sector — so very positive on the heels of being held hostage by a boil water notice.
Don’t let parking be an excuse for not attending the Market. El Metro’s downtown route will take you right to the Plaza. If you are driving, El Metro offers free shaded parking across from the Plaza.
