Conductor’s Countenance

By the time this happened,
Yo Yo Ma was on his way home.
The sun was beginning to set.
We were perfectly tired.

Julio, Robert and the maestro took a deep breath.
The maestro had met his hero.
The visionary cellist had inspired two Laredos.
For one day of action this was the center of the world.

This was a moment of bliss.
Our sun kissed faces glowed in the Texas sun.
Our cities came together in hope.
The music lilted above the Rio Grande.

I will remember this day forever.
I will remember the utter joy of the moment.
I will remember the maestro conducting.
I will remember the look of a man whose dream came true.
