City expands COVID-19 Utilities Relief Program

Effective November 6, the City of Laredo has expanded the, which is not retroactive. Utility account holders and heads of households experiencing financial hardships from COVID-19 pandemic related issues such as loss of work or income (unemployed/reduction of hours/furloughed) and medical hardships (COVID-19 test positive or exposed and unable to work or in a high risk group and unable to provide financial support for household) can apply.

The program provides up to $125 per month of utilities financial relief on residential meter accounts. The individual applying can submit documentation online or in-person. Those applying should include a copy of their water bill. 
Online applicants must complete a COVID-19 Relief Request form online by visiting either the City of Laredo Utilities Department webpage at https://www.cityoflaredo.com/utilities/ or the City of Laredo webpage athttps://www.cityoflaredo.com/ and clicking the icon “Expanded COVID-19 Utilities Relief Program.”

Applicants who apply in person must complete a paper application at the Utilities Administration Department at 5816 Daugherty Avenue. No applications will be provided at City Hall or City Hall Annex. Applicants need to bring the required documentation along with the application. Envelopes are provided to insert application and documents. 

Required documentation for loss of work or income are: a signed letter or memo from employer or copies of pay stubs showing reduction of hours or documentation from the Texas Workforce Commission.

Required documentation for medical hardships are: laboratory confirmation of COVID-19 positive test results or physical and health care provider referral.

Relief is not for reimbursements or refunds for bills already paid.
