District VIII City Council Candidate Alyssa Cigarroa has issued a statement regarding her application for candidacy in the November 3 General Election:
“We recently learned that my application for a place on the ballot for the position of City Council Representative District 8 was denied, and my name will not appear on the ballot, because the City Charter is outdated.
“The neglect of our city government was reflected in my own candidacy in this race. I meet all of the eligibility requirements to run for City Council, yet the city did not accept my application.
“I embrace this challenge and remind you to write my name on the ballot to prove that the people of this community have a voice and that they deserve better representation.”
Cool! And good luck! Is the City Charter outdated or did she just miss the deadline? Either way, my regards and ‘veremos’. It’s all good.
When we, Ligarde family members, were alive and residing at home in Laredo, we always turned to a Cigarroa family member of doctors for our health care. We were never let down and I’m certain that a Cigarroa in office will be a credit to Laredo/Webb County, Texas.
