AHEC prepares for 25-year gala

The Board of Directors of the Area Health Education Center (AHEC) have shared details of an event to celebrate AHEC’s 25 years in the community. 

Community leaders, friends and supporters of AHEC gathered last week for the announcement at IBOC. “It gives us, the Board, great pride to see the impact that AHEC has had on the lives of many in the community and under the leadership of Ms. Bazan. AHEC is recognized throughout the nation,” said board chair Mercurio Martinez Jr. 

The 25-Year Celebration Gala will be held Thursday, March 5, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. at the IBOC Annex Building on Jacaman Rd. The event will be sponsored by International Bank of Commerce.

The gala’s theme will focus on at least 25 lives touched by AHEC programs and individuals who are AHEC alumni and are practicing providers in their chosen fields.

Over 100,000 individuals In Webb, Zapata, Jim Hogg, La Salle, Dimmit, and Duval counties have received services through the AHEC menu of programs that include accredited continuing education conferences/workshops for practicing professionals; pipeline programs for elementary to college level students to spark an interest in higher education and health careers; and health education and information for the community at large to help individuals make informed decisions. 

AHEC’s accomplishments and its value to students, families, health professionals, and community members will be showcased at the March gala, which is chaired by Blas Castañeda, a founding board member of AHEC.

Castañeda, an invaluable supporter of the organization’s mission, will work alongside co-chairs Javier Moctezuma and Bazan. Members of the Gala Committee include Priscilla Salinas, Gloria Rendon, Michael Gonzalez; Larry Dovalina; Leodoro Martinez; Gonzalo Prida; Hector (Tito) García; Jorge Gonzalez; Nati Lozano; Gary Schwebel; Dr. Guadalupe “Lupita” Perez; Rogelio Treviño; America Flores Gonzalez; Esther Degollado; Dr. Erica Guerrero; Luis Estrada; Judge Alfredo García; and Claudia Arambula.
