Laredo College President Ricardo J. Solis and banker Joe Palacios have been named 2019 Future of Texas Award recipients. They were nominated by State Representative Richard Peña Raymond.
Raymond said that since the inception of the Future of Texas Award, he has chosen individuals who are building a brighter future for Laredo and for the state of Texas.
He expressed respect for the laudable efforts of both awardees, who will be recognized at an October 23 banquet at Monte Carlo Ballroom.
Dr. Solis, who has been at the helm of Laredo College for three years, is credited with transforming both of the schools’ campuses with innovation and forward thinking partnerships with other institutions, and programs that translate to a better educated workforce and a stronger local economy.
“Dr. Solis is clearly one of the most effective college presidents in the state of Texas and not only do we benefit in Laredo, because of his talents, but the entire state benefits too,” Raymond said.
Palacios, a banker for 28 years, is senior vice-president at Texas Community Bank.
“Joe has built an outstanding book of business in the bank due to his work ethic and his devotion to his customers,” said Douglas Macdonald, President and CEO of Texas Community Bank. “And outside of the bank he has been an energetic volunteer for the Border Olympics, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Washington’s Birthday Celebration Association. He has given hours and hours of his time to the community. He is very deserving of this recognition,” he added.
