The City of Laredo 9-1-1 Regional Administration — as administrators for the South Texas Development Council of Governments (STDC) — along with the Laredo Police Department and Webb County Sheriff’s Office will host a press conference on Tuesday, July 2, at 10:00 a.m. at the Laredo Police Department to announce details on the new availability of Text-to-9-1-1 in Webb, Jim Hogg, Starr and Zapata counties.
This new service will allow citizens in those counties to send text messages directly to 9-1-1 for help in an emergency situation in which they are unable to make a voice call.
The press conference will be followed by a demonstration of the technology and tour of the telecommunications room at the Police Department at 4712 Maher Avenue.
Amanda Tienda, MPA, ENP, 9-1-1 program manager; Connie Chavarria, 9-1-1 program specialist, and officials from the Laredo Police Department and Webb County Sheriff’s Office will participate in the demonstration.
