Webb County Better Community Foundation awards scholarships to college bound seniors

The Webb County Better Community Foundation (WCBCF) awarded academic collegiate scholarships to local high school seniors during a special ceremony held at the Webb County 111th District Court Room on Wednesday, May 29.

The foundation reviewed hundreds of applicants from all high schools in Webb and Zapata counties. The selected recipients were students who demonstrated a commitment to excellence throughout their high school career in academics, athletics, extra-curricular activities, community involvement. Financial need was also a consideration. The $1,000 scholarship will aid high school seniors with financial assistance to students wanting to pursue a college degree in any field.

The scholarship recipients are Diana Aguirre, LBJ High School; Arianna Alvarado, Early College High School; Andrea Botello, Zapata High School;

Valeria Castañeda, St. Augustine High School; Alexis L. Garcia, Martin High School; Gabriela Angelica Gonzalez, United High School; Idalina I. Guerra, Zapata High School; Jacinda Lee Martinez, Alexander High School; Amanda Ramirez, Nixon High School; and Adtom J. Solis, Cigarroa High School.
