IBC Bank and Commerce Bank awarded $153,000 in scholarships to deserving high school seniors across Texas and Oklahoma in honor of Antonio R. Sanchez Sr., founder of IBC Bank. Born into a humble family, Sanchez was a strong supporter of making higher education available to students interested in bettering their lives.
Commerce Bank awarded $13,000 in scholarships to deserving students from 13 area high schools. The need-based scholarships are awarded to high school seniors who have demonstrated a commitment to IBC’s “Do More” philosophy.
“Budgeting and paying for college can be overwhelming,” said Commerce Bank President and CEO Ignacio Urrabazo. “We are proud that we can ease some of that worry for local students with the A.R. Sanchez scholarship.”
IBC Bank began the A.R. Sanchez, Sr. Memorial Scholarship Program more than two decades ago. Since then over $2 million in scholarships have been awarded to students across South Texas and Oklahoma.
