WWII veteran John Valls to speak at May 2 Holocaust Remembrance Day Ceremony on liberation of Bergen-Belsen concentration camp

World War II veteran John Valls will speak May 2 at the Laredo Public Library on the May 1945 liberation of Bergen-Belsen, the Nazi concentration camp in Northern Germany in which 50,000 Jews perished.

Valls, who served with the 52nd Armored Infantry Battalion, 9th Armored Division, is part of the Holocaust Remembrance Day Ceremony sponsored by the library and Congregation Agudas Achim.

Valls — among the soldiers who liberated the concentration camp —will recount his experiences there.

According to Renée J. LaPerrière of the Laredo Public Library, Laredoans of of every faith and age are invited to attend the ceremony, which begins at 5:30 p.m.
