Alejandro A. Cantu, OTR; Irene Rabago, COTA; Fernando F. Zuñiga, vice – president of the board of the Ruthe B. Cowl Center; Betty B. Moreno, board member; Susy Venegas, program manager; Chelsea Huffine, information and referral specialist; Fernando B. Vargas, DPT; and executive director Jacqueline Rodriguez invite parents to register their special needs children ages 5 to 14 for the RBCRC Christmas Pajama Party on Dec. 20.

The Ruthe B. Cowl Rehabilitation Center (RBCRC), in collaboration with the South Texas Aging and Disability Resource Center, a program of South Texas Development Council (STDC), will host a Christmas Pajama Party on Thursday, December 20, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the RBCRC Kids Zone at 1220 N. Malinche Avenue.

The event is sponsored by the Texas Department of Human Resources Commission and will offer free respite services exclusively for caregivers of children with special needs.

The party, which has been carefully planned for children between the ages of 5 to 14 by the RBCRC therapists and support staff, will stage activities that are linked to promote, maintain, and develop skills needed to be functional in settings such as school, home, and different environments. The activities will encourage participation in daily life in the areas of learning, self-esteem, self-confidence, independence, safety, and social interaction. Other highlights of the party include holiday treats, festive crafts, the showing of a loved holiday movie, and a visit from the jolly man himself, Santa.

The STDC and the RBCRC have previously partnered to provide much-needed respite care services in the community by means of annual summer camps. Hundreds of children with special needs between the ages of 3 to 14 have attended the free summer camps. The Center strives to provide family services that ensure continuity of care.

“We encourage parents to take advantage of this great opportunity to get much-deserved respite time,” said center executive director Jackie Rodriguez.

“Space is limited, so we ask parents to register as soon as possible.”
