The Laredo Public Libraries’ One City, One Book program – now in its tenth year — invites Laredoans to read, learn, and share a common experience by reading this year’s selection, First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers by Loung Ung.
The One City, One Book initiative will culminate with two visits by author Ung. On Friday, October 5 Ung will address students and faculty at TAMIU, and on Saturday, October 6, the general public will be able to meet and greet Ung at a reception at 9:30 a.m. and hear her lecture at 10:30 a.m. at the Joe A. Guerra Library at 1120 East Calton Road.
A screening of First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers, a film directed by Angelina Jolie, is part of the One City, One Book initiative and is set for Wednesday, September 26, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the Multi-purpose Room of the Joe A. Guerra Library.
Ung’s book was selected by Texas A&M International University as the Global Read for the freshman class. This joint program is funded in part by Humanities Texas.
