Registration continues for Diabetes Empowerment Education Classes sponsored by the City of Laredo’s Healthy Living/Viviendo Mejor program (HLVM).
The first session is set for Tuesday, September 25, at 9:00 a.m. at the City of Laredo Health Department Healthy Learning Center at 2600 Cedar.
The free interactive sessions are offered to persons with diabetes, their family members, and the general public. Everyone who participates receives a free laboratory assay and access to physical activity classes.
The classes are aimed at disease self-management education and family support to inspire healthier choices for persons living with diabetes, hypertension, and obesity.
HLVM takes a unique family and community approach to address diabetes risk factors and its complications by empowering participants to take control of their chronic disease or risk factors through education topics such as Understanding the Human Body, Understanding Diabetes and its Risk Factors, Monitoring your Body, Health Management through Meal Planning, Diabetes and Physical Activity, Diabetes Complications, Identification and Prevention, Learning about Medications and Medical Care, and Living with Diabetes by Mobilizing Family and Friends.
