In collaboration with Texas A&M International University, LTGI brings the production to life with a Thursday, September 20, opening at TAMIU’s Center for Fine and Performing Arts Theater.

Through the generosity of The D. D. Hachar Charitable Trust and IBC Bank, all students will be admitted free of charge to all performances.
This is the eighth annual production in LTGI’s Class on Stage Series, an annual presentation of professional quality theatrical productions based upon literary works, classic or contemporary, selected for their direct relevance each year to academic curricula and geared towards middle school and high school students. This year LTGI has included links to study resource guides for teachers and students on its website, www.laredotheaterguild.org.
In previous years Class on Stage performances have proven to increase students’ test scores on the play’s content and have given thousands of Laredo-area students the opportunity to see a live play for the very first time.
Directed by Vernon Carroll and produced by Karen Mejia, The Glass Menagerie is considered to be one of the 10 greatest plays of the 20th Century. It centers on the lives of the Wingfield family in St. Louis during the Great Depression. A memory play, it is told from the viewpoint of a narrator reminiscing about past events. Author Williams employed autobiographical elements and symbolism in this play.
Strengthening LTGI’s ties with TAMIU, the cast of four includes an Instructor, an alumna and two current TAMIU students. Dana Crabtree portrays Amanda Wingfield, and Jaime Gonzales plays her son Tom; Stephanie Solis Schnyder plays Amanda’s daughter, Laura, and Gregorio J. Lopez portrays Jim, Laura’s unknowing gentleman caller.
In addition to these public performances, special daytime performances will be held for LISD and UISD students.
Teachers wishing to bring their class of 10 or more to a public performance may secure free tickets in advance by contacting producer Mejia at (956) 763.3969.
Free tickets will be available at the door for persons with Student IDs starting one hour before show time. Tickets for non-students are $10 and can be purchased at the door or in advance online at www.laredotheaterguild.org and at Blue Top Digital Reprographics at 101 Hillside Road #11-A.
