Mercadito Fest: a meticulous showcase of art

Mercadito Fest, a quarterly, single-day arts and design event, makes its anticipated 2018 Fall appearance on Sunday, September 2, at the Lolita’s Bistro and Bolillos Cafe Plaza at 6950 McPherson Rd.

The Fest showcases a meticulous assembly of art work that spans many categories, from ceramics to jewelry, handcrafted beauty products to clothing design, woodworking, and textile art.

The late afternoon event begins at 5 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Mercadito Fest will feature over 25 artists and makers, artisan foods, and drinks. A dog costume-contest begins at 7:00 p.m., followed by a dance performance featuring students of the Gabriela Mendoza-García Ballet Folklórico at 7:30 p.m., a live acoustic set by Bucket of Six, and face-painting by Bren Renteria from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Founded by friends and restaurateurs Gabriela Fernandez and Amanda Montoya in 2015, the Mercadito Fest has become a showcase for the thriving Makers Movement. The Fest draws creative-minded crowd that makes for a vibrant communal atmosphere.
