Students who plan to take summer courses at any local, private, or public schools, including TAMIU and LCC, can take advantage of El Metro’s Student Transportation Program.
For summer sessions One or Two, El Metro will provide unlimited bus rides for the duration of the session at a cost of $80 per session. Students in need of financial aid for the program are urged to inquire with their school registrar offices or counselors for eligibility.
According to information provided by El Metro, the transit system is committed to provide services that connect students to their destination in an efficient and safe manner. This is the first time that El Metro offers a competitive summer bus-pass program for students that are enrolled for summer classes.
“We are glad to provide students with an alternate transportation program that enables them to attend school, get to work, visit recreation centers, and enjoy shopping downtown and at malls — all this without having to spend a lot of their money on fuel and parking,” said El Metro general manager Claudia San Miguel, who added, “El Metro is committed to provide students with services that connect them to their destination in an efficient and safe manner. This is the first time ever that El Metro offers a competitive summer bus-pass program for students who are enrolled in summer classes.
San Miguel said that in conjunction with the City Council El Metro has over the last year completed over 300 bus stop improvements with benches, sun shades, solar-powered lights, trash receptacles, and bike racks that now make the transit experience more attractive for new riders.
